Is Why - July 2008

Rancid ~ Ruby Soho

July 28th 2008 19:02
Never knowing when to give up is the theme of this song ~ it embraces false pride, a woman debasing herself and using the role of victimhood as an excuse to for tears. She has her reality and he has his, both are etched in planned obsolescence. So why the tears sweet Rancid Ruby, you keep replaying the chorus over and over and over and . . . why, when you know the question to your answer.

You cry out in pain, lash out with vengeance, howl to the heavens in rage and still, you replay the chorus, of the song you know so well. There can never be peace in your heart or life, when the reality you’ve chosen is rooted in the winds of never ending change and turmoil, served up bitterly sour and vile; still you sing the chorus of your song, victimhood oh victimhood where is your end?

Exposing yourself and made available for the nihilist man whose name you can not speak, whose dream you would not follow, look where your pride has taken you Rancid Ruby, the song’s relentless chorus pounds endlessly over and over and over and . . . why, because you refuse to hear the din of your wolfish pride.

Commenting a song I can not value.

I don't understand the attacks on Ruby, I truly don't, Raven. I have always found her to be clever and witty, rational, openminded and relevant. She has strong opinions but they are opinions upheld by many around Orble, who are not then vilified the way she is. It just doesn't make sense to me, I haven't seen anything that has stood out to warrant her being disliked as much as SL Bradish, by so many, left and right, including SL herself!

I don't understand the attacks on Ruby either, honestly, I like her. And her blogging.

On a happier note, what is that pic from? I know I've seen it before and I have to say it just looks wicked.

Raven

Just want to say one thing.
This the wrong way to handle an extremist.
I know my stuff and the last thing that you want to do is hand them the cloak of a martyr. Like a bigot who wraps themselves in a national flag others will wrap themselves in victimhood as an excuse for their hate mongering.

Just one small thing to you.
Wake up and smell the manipulation.
You are being had because someone is validating all your inner prejudices as being rational.

Surprise, surprise, this isn't an attack on Ruby, it is what I said it is; I dislike the lyrics of the song, it's demeaning message and the fact that it promotes victimization.

I wondered where I'd heard Ruby Soho before and while reading the lyrics, I wrote this post.

Ruby isn't Ruby unless she's being Ruby; and that works for me.

The vampire chick is just interesting looking and so I used the photo, I've no idea when it arrived and where it was from, but it's likely a movie still.

Oh Raven, I have always loved this song. Yes, it did inspire my Orble moniker.

My favourite lines:

Ruby's heart ain't bleedin'
'Cause she knows the feeling is gone
She's not the only one who knew there's somethin' wrong

Oh my how true. How very apropo to our circumstances right now.

Michaelie and Dianna, much appreciated.

Everyone else, I heard someone once said that envy is a sin. Dunno who it was but apparently they are quite popular in some circles.

Keep on trucking Raven. Glad to see that I am relevant. You know what they say- no such thing as bad publicity!

Oh you are also wrong about the meaning of the song. It was actually written about a girl friend of the bass player and the way their relationship suffered as a result of his burgeoning success. Ruby wasn't bitter, but she was aware that her world was changing and that it was no use trying to hold onto the past.

Don't know where you got the idea it was about pride and victimisation. But then, people have a habit of ignoring the obvious and just projecting their own feelings into the meaning of songs don't they?

Wonder why?

Besides just not making sense, your post does make one thing clear, Raven - You are an epic dumbass.

haha totally agree Jeff
You are an epic dumbass.
But I guess Raven's old, and from Alaska so we should just make an exception (I mean obviously hes got dementia!).

I like the moral code of ethics that Raven and S.L. adhere to by the way- Condemning kids for their childish behavior, and in the next breath doing the exact same thing-- Oh the irony!

Hiya Ruby, the nuances of language, especially English, always leaves much to be desired.

I am aware of that play, but the situation from my perspective is obviously different. If the song inspires you, then I'd have to say that is a good thing.

Jeff, if you hadn't waited so long to make your statement, I might have taken umbrage; but forming an opinion after you've read all of the others points of view illustrates your inability to form your own opinion or to lead a charge.

Being half the man she is, you're probably still waiting for puberty.

I think the pic might be Akasha.

I know my ex had it.

Unfortunately I'm no longer speaking to him, so that isn't much help.

What irony? There's nothing ironic in your insipid displays of stupidity recently.

Oh hell, you got me- I didn't comment soon - but some of us do have jobs and can't sit and wait to respond to internet lunacy all the time. And Raven, you betray yourself...I am half the man who is? I thought your post was about song lyrics? Just for the record, my post was a commentary on the poem by EAP.

Dianna G, I tried a search and got lot's of pic's, but none that matched. Perhaps when you and your ex communicate peacefully again you can ask him about the photo; it's fascinating. Here's another take of her.

This appears to be airbrush artwork.

Hello SL, I've been accused of much worse. Sometimes the half remembered lyrics of a song, poem or riddle replay over and over in the mind and the only way to find relief from that kind of festering sore, is to lance it.

Good heavens Dianna, never mention cats within earshot of a bird . . .

Raven, put in whatever guise, your feelings are clear here and elsewhere, and those of quite a few others, and I am honestly at a loss. I would expect this kind of reaction if she went around stating her desire to spit roast puppies, but really...

...I don't know whether to respond to this because I don't know if it is directed at me?? I thought surely not but now I don't know, there is no Micheal that commented and my name is kind of similar though female...

Here's an aside Michaelie,

Rancid ~ Ruby Soho

With so many vague rules, it is time to find out what the parameters are ~ yes I am deliberately testing for them.
