An Oxymoron: The Politics of Religion

December 23rd 2007 18:00
This is holiday season, and it means many things to the diverse group’s world wide that celebrate this time of year. I am, however going to post this blog targeting a belief system that irritates me, and (sic) I’m presenting this argument without benefit of research, just familiarity with the topic.

What prompted my knee jerk reaction? Authors of tripe like this comment:

It's always good to see some one stand their ground, and not back down on their beliefs, even when faced with mean and hateful people that only want to hurt.

We should never be ashamed of who we are, and what we stand for if we have done our best
.

And this was signed by, God’s Advocate and Conservative Christian.

So, without quoting scripture and with half my brain duct taped behind my back, I offer these few remarks for your consideration.

Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Idi Amin, Pinochet, Castro, Noriega and Putin are a few of the members of society that are not subscribers to your bible based belief system, and they, … stood their ground, and would not back down on their beliefs, even when faced with mean and hateful people that only want to hurt, like Britain, France, Australia, America and their allies.

Further, … they were never ashamed of who they were, and what they stood for and they had done their best. These unfortunates were offered a chance to amend their ways by the world community, and chose instead to stand by their affirmations, a decision the world didn’t subscribe too. And, eventually most of these malcontents were dealt with harshly for their choices.

Lately there has been a huge outpouring of anger and rage aimed at Muslims; not at individuals, who have acted criminally, but at Islam in general. But the irony is they use the assembled books of their religious underpinning as the justification for this anger. Books heavily influenced by history, Judaism, Islam and even pagan beliefs that evolved into the Christian movement; originally, Jews converted away from their traditional thinking and brought into a new paradigm.

The interesting(?) point I’d like to make is this: Jesus, John the baptizer, Paul and all of the disciples never said anything specifically negative about Islam that I can recall, if they did, show me where in your bible that verse is located. They preached love, tolerance, and to render obedience to god, and to your government.

Most civil disobedience was the invention of men serving their own interests. And, back biters, gossipers and whisperers were considered practitioner's of witch craft, an abomination.

An aside: Life is in the blood. Yes, Israelites were instructed by god to destroy the occupants of the land given to them, because of the sin of corruption on levels few understand; the DNA level, not because they were Palestinians.

Most major religions of the world have had to work out their own paths to god, and that has been a chronically messy affair. And, still is.

So, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, and now, go worship at the surly temple of the Silly Season.

Oh I love Orble drama - but mostly I adore the pic of the little cutie at the top! She looks like a sweetheart - a stunned mullet, but a sweetheart.

So do I Michaelie, this little one is a reflection of my hope for the future, the next generation of children coming up; certainly not in the fodder dialogs floating about, drama, naw...just ego crapola. Fun stuff, but not really satisfying.

How is the ceasefire holding?

I am unilaterally ceasing all hostilities over Christmas day.
