What Defines Humor?

December 16th 2007 03:44
What does it take to get your smile groove working? The subtle, the obvious, the absurd, just what is it that gets to our funny bones. I've never fully understood it, but I certainly appreciate it. This first picture would just have to be a shot at the absurd obvious, but that's just me; tasteless and tacky curious. Oh, click on the photos, some are a bit more revealing.

These trout spawner's are really escaping from a fish farm; they jumped up the stream of water feeding the pond, swam the length of it and found freedom in a major body of water on the other end. This brain floss for eager young minds caught me just in time to clear the doldrums from my over worked brain and left me weak from laughter.

This is the love of my life, her happy demeanor is a constant source of joy for me. On that particular morning I was serving her breakfast in bed after serving her a hot mug of coffee and threatening to take a photo, hehheheh, she didn't know the camera was behind my back and was the reason I couldn't carry more than the coffee. A common everyday affair that makes me smile. She enjoyed the breakfast, I savor the moment and the sound of her laughter.

Odd that something my generation was raised up to believe was improper, immoral, just plain wrong and the cause of good Baptists converting to politicians is the 'toilet thingie". Yet while growing up, I must have spent what seems to have been hundreds of hours guarding the doors of various mens rooms throughout the USA so mom, sister, girlfriends and wife could use these non-unifacilities and complain that men are pigs.

Have you ever been feeling crappy, not quite ill and not really well? Tisha was feeling puny and couldn't make up her mind about what she wanted; either something to eat or drink in general, but nothing specific had come to mind , so she camped out in front of the fridge until it did. I estimate that it took an hour for the house to warm up afterwards and she did eventually discover something that appealed to her taste buds. Meanwhile, I wisely opted out of teasing her for the day, well, except for the picture taking.

JR and I were discussing how men and dogs are creatures of habit. We get home and we go through this ritual exercise of checking out the bathroom for sniff and drink, the cupboards in hope of finding a biscuit is laying loose, the phone for msgs, the fridge and our last food dish in case we forgot something, and generally sniff out whats been cooking for the day. Then we'll go look out the windows and bark a few times or we would if someones barker hadn't eaten his t-shirt. Then we circle the couch three or four times and plop down for a nap while the television blares loudly and we snore.

So, need I really explain this snow blowing man? Snow removal up here in Alaska isn't a task, it's a way of life; a way to express our selves and to live life in the rapidly frigid lane. We usually don't have many tourists or bears prowling about this time of year, so we just let it all hang out with considerable abandon. Why not, we only live once unless you're a reincarnate for the umpteenth time.

So, learning about: what makes you smile iswhy this was written.

Is why you continue to do self portraits? I like the Viagra, poor silly men.

No-one could ever accuse you of lacking in humour, Raven, if a little foul at times, cock a doodle doo.

Do you like flesh a lot? Or is it a substitute for flash?

katyzzz....sorry pardner.

Your wife is a cutie Raven!

I love incongruity, but pretty much anything can make me laugh. I had a period of my life when I thought I would never laugh again, so now I take every opportunity!

I do not believ that there will ever be enough viagra to meet the expectations of the advertizing execs.

Ah, Techno, still full of pith, eh?

Naw, katyzzz, just rakish humor; I randomly selected some photos and uploaded them. Then, wrote my blog around them. It's the second or third time I've played with the experiment.

Michaelie, that is a great outlook to have. I have observed that folks with the greatest appreciation of humor have most often used it as a buffer against their pain.

Parties, right,,, we can always hope Damo. Ad execs live in their own little world, and even their pressing problems are just little things.

Thanks for dropping in. Raven

Hi Raven

hahahaha! some great pics you got! Your wife has such a lovely smile.

I have the embarrassing problem of finding the world a funny place at the most inappropriate of times and laugh when others don`t.

But you gotta 'ave a larf don`t ya? Certainly!

Cheeeeeers to the world being a funny, funny place - by every stretch of the word!

I laugh at odd (and inappropriate) times as well Ash, then I blame it on PTSD. Yeah, like most men, I tend to be a visual sort of person, none to cerebral and photos really can stir me up. Raven

Perhaps in Alaska snow blowers are valued much the same as satellite dishes in West Virginia?????

that snow removal job looks positively exhausting.

I think you're on to something James, we do take our satellite dishes pretty serious around here.

You're right, Cibbuano, it usually requires a post snow removal snack, nip and nap.

Raven

(nip = some apple schnapps or..)

Setting aside the very vulgar image at the end, and acknowledging your lovely wife,

What defines humour, why you do Raven you do.

I like this entry.

We need humour like we need love and sadness. I'm still waiting for a joke that will make me laugh until I cry. Haven't heard one for quite some time.

Great entry, great photos!

Ah, Krystal welcome. Yes, I agree, Mr Snowblower is over the edge, but that's exactly the point. Those odd things that break through our somber shells and tickles us until it manifests on our exteriors, breaking through those shells like a new chick bursting upon the world.

High praise Eighteen, I'm glad you you found this posting.

Humor has for me always always been a buffer to the pain in my life. Being alive after a life rending incident will cause me to laugh, inappropriate, but still..there it is, that or tears. And it is rare that I cry, having become numb years ago.
