7 Steps to Header Heaven

April 8th 2008 19:47
What do you do when you can't afford expensive software to create a header or banner?

Step 1
~ I whined to Jon in a pm

Step 2 ~ Inspired by his advice, I moved on to resolve the matter myself, pondering a bit, eureka, a flash of inspiration exploded in my overly caffeine saturated mind

Step 3 ~ I then moved forward with the resolution process by downloading Yahoo's free site builder software and SnagIt (30 day free trial version) of course

Step 4 ~ Using the Yahoo wizard to create a new site, I opened a new page, a generic one, changed the page background to white, and modified that pages header by adding an image, text and header background color, saved it but didn't post the site

Step 5 ~ Next, I then created copies of the header and spread them out on the same page, and modified the others file headers on it, just as you can now view them

Step 6 ~ I then used Yahoo's snazzy preview feature to pull up the result in my browser and used SnagIt to capture the individual headers as an image and convert them to a jpeg.

Step 7 ~ Within a hour I was installing them onto my Orble blogs as jpegs

Thanks for the inspiration, Jon and thank you Yahoo.

Why did I use Yahoo, I have a site hosted there of course; tlcorbin.com

Well done, it seems the brain blogs are having an effect. I noticed coffee quip, this morning.

So that's how you did that??? Believe me, I noticed but didn't say anything. Sounds easier than I thought!

Hi Raven

That's great, I wondered what SnagIt was like. Very innovative!

Hey, that sounds complicated.

In the future, if you ever need to make more banners, just google "GIMP." It's the same as Photoshop and the best thing is, it's free.

G'morning katyzzz, I'm sure that all of those brain help posts have paid off in big dividends for me, so thank you for posting them.

Hiya James, like many others on Orble, I have been wanting to make a nice looking header, nothing outrageous, just something better than what I had. But when Jon let me know the tech problems for him, I decided to find a simple solution, and think that I did.

What? Katyzzz, it is simple, very simple.

Hello Tracy, I was shocked at how easy it is to use. In fact I will probably purchase it.

Here's an offer to those who are stymied; email me at tlcorbin.raven@gmail.com with the text, with or without text background color and font, image and header background color. I'll make it up for you and email the jpeg back to you as I have time to do so.

For me, it was the reverse....I got hassled to 'individualize' my blog....Well, not hassled, more like encouraged. Id had my fave Evangelion scene, my darling Rei in my pics for ages, and lucky for me her home site allows its use on other webpages, and the pic displayed exactly how I like.

So now the first thing anyone sees on my page is the Goddess gathering souls back to the egg of life. Perfect.

Wow, there really is hope after coffee Damo, now what would I do with the world?

If it works for you kleo, then all is well in the universe and I happen to like her.

Good work Raven, I'll have to check out SnagIt, I've never used it before.

I can definitely recommend GIMP to everyone as well. It's basically the free software equivalent of photoshop.

Also when you upload your title images they may be off-centered to the right. To fix this go to your blog's Theme page, then Advanced Themes, and under the Header section set Left Padding to 0. Then your title banner will be in the centre rather than off to the right

Jon.

I think Diogenes asked the same question of Alexander the Great.

You should see her in her Glory Raven the scene in the movie is nothing short of inspiring.

Evangelion - Neon Genises, Death and Rebirth. Anime cartoon that deal with the big questions - God, Humanity and Angels. The series is quite long and Id say you have to watch the series in entirety to undertand the movie (um...But even after the movie its hard to understand and Ive watched it to infinitum?) but I know plenty who have just seen the movie by itself.

Hiya Jon, thanks for checking in, the advanced themes information is very helpful. I wanted to share this info with everyone, because this may have stumped a few others as well.

Diogenes was on to something Damo, and he knew it.

Funnily enough, I'm actually very proficient in Dreamweaver Photoshop and others..

But...I made my header in Word and paint.....and I think you'll agree its fairly professional.

No 1 design rule - don't make work harder for yourself than it has to be. You could've made a better header in Word or paintbrush etc etc LOL

Awwww phooie, Jarrah, where are your posts on the subject?

From the interest generated, others may be having the same problem.

And I've seen your header and didn't care for it, but that's just a personal preference thing. Seriously, that'd be a great topic to share with others.

One day, when I have 76 hours to spare, I am going to sit down and work all this out! I would love a proper header, but am going to be very fussy about it and need to think of what images etc I should use!

As well you should Michaelie, mold it to fit your personality and that of your site.
